2025 Fundraising Appeal
Dear Friend of the Mary Theotokos Retreat Center,
We want to thank you for your prayers and support of the Mary Theotokos Center this year, which have enabled us to continue our mission and be open for the many retreats we have had.
We are dedicating this Annual Appeal letter to the need for an endowment to fund major expenses at the Mary Theotokos Center, to maintain and protect our buildings in 2026. The most urgent project is stabilization work on the hillside behind the main Center buildings. The erosion is getting to where it will soon threaten the structural integrity of the main house. Rob Grassley is working on plans to address this challenge in the most cost-effective way possible. He anticipates the need to demolish and remove one of the smaller barn/shed buildings on the edge of the hill, to eliminate the water run-off from the large roof as well as to allow vehicle and equipment access to the embankment to bring in reinforcing materials.
There are also other important deferred projects, such as replacing the (very) old windows on the 2nd floor dormitory level of the main house.
We have been very frugal with our funds—so much so that Rob Grassley has deferred taking any compensation for his services this past year as the caretaker/manager of the Center. His ability to keep the Center operating on a shoestring budget is beyond amazing. He provides most of the labor and the know-how to keep things here running, but these projects in 2026 will need funds for materials and equipment. We are hoping to raise $50,000 for our endowment. If you are able to help with a generous end-of-year donation, we would be very grateful!
As every year, there will be a special Mass in January offered for all our donors.
